I just found this video on YouTube. APL one of the members of the famous American pop rock bands, The Black Eyed Peas, sang a song about the Philippines. Staying in the Philippines for over a year now makes me want to discover all those other islands and mountain I have yet to see. I think Philippines has so much more to offer like its neighboring Asian countries. *oink**oink* Please check it out and tell me what you think? Are you ready to go to the Philippines and discover its 7,107 islands. *oink* I sure am!!! *oinktastic!*

I arrived with some friend in the Philippines on the 5th of January. The was flight was relatively short 16 hours but very uncomfortable as I had a bad hangover from the previous night drinking. Haha!

I will be compiling different pictures of my adventures here in the Philippines. *oink* *oink* I will share with you the many great people I met, delicious and exotic food I ate and also unforgettable travel adventures. *oink*

My first adventure takes me to the largest Island of the Calamian archipelago in the Northern part of Palawan province in the Philippines, Busuanga. Nice beaches, gentle landscape, good hiking and great diving make the island a good holiday destination. Wreck diving is the main attraction and many Japanese ships wait patiently for you under the sea. And the largest town on the island is called, Coron. *oink* *oink*

Traveling to Coron, Palawan was really memorable. The town is beautiful and the sandy beaches are amazing. Coron is both the name of a town on Busuanga, and the name of the island just offshore. The island is famous for its wreck diving, and the site has been named in many lists of top dive spots in the world. In September 1944, a fleet of Japanese ships hiding in the harbour were sunk in a daring raid by the US navy. The result is around ten well preserved shipwrecks surrounded with coral reef.

There are also attractions on Coron Island itself. There are many beautiful bleach white sand beaches, mostly tiny and surrounded by large limestone cliffs and wildlife. Barracuda and Kayangan lakes are both stunning locations, and the island also has a mysterious indegenous tribe who are notably shy of outsiders. *oink*

I spent time with friends snorkeling, sleeping at a seaside dive lodge, diving, eating, running away from jelly fishes, feeding schools of fishes, swimming with sea turtles, and exploring WWII sunken ships. I will share more stories of my Coron, Palawan adventure in the other areas of this blog. *oink* *oink*

The aquatic views from the sunken Japanese warships off Coron Island are listed in Forbes Traveler Magazine’s top 10 best scuba diving sites in the world. *oinkastic!*
Coron Island, Palawan is a post from: The Adventures of Spider Pig

Coron Island, located at the northern tip of Palawan in the Philippines and about 170 nautical miles southwest of Manila, is known for several Japanese shipwrecks World War II vintage. The area around the wrecks have pleasant rock formations which provide for excellent snorkeling opportunities, with underwater visibility extending up to 80 feet. The water is usually calm, with almost no current. Coron is one of the most visited destinations for wreck diving in the Philippines. Wreck dive sites are found in a depth as shallow as 10-30 feet and as deep as 120-140 feet. Most are in the range of about 60-80 feet, perfect for sports divers.

Divesites around Coron include also many different reef divesites and the famous “Günter´s Cave”. Also known as Cathedral Cave as, during the right time of the day, the sun throws a beam of light through a hole in the cave-ceiling, illuminating the inside. It is possible to surface in the cave, as the hole in the cave-ceiling allows fresh air to enter. The cave is named after Günther Bernert. He was part of the first dive-group exploring the cave after hearing from local fishermen about the existence of the cave.

Wreck Diving Sites in Coron Bay include the Irako Wreck, Okikawa Maru Wreck, Akitsushima Wreck, Kogyo Maru Wreck, Olympia Maru Wreck, Kyokuzan Maru Wreck, East Tangat Gunboat Wreck (real name of the ship, Teru-Kaze Maru, was recently discovered by a group of Dutch divers, who spent a couple of days digging into bottom sand around the stern), Nanshin Maru Wreck, Lusong Gunboat Wreck and Skeleton Wreck.

I really enjoyed the beautiful beaches of Coron, Palawan *oink*. I will go back there again. And, maybe, bring some new friends along…*oink* *oink*.
