Ever since I began journey to discover the world and my purpose in life, many people ask me what exactly do I do? I fondly tell each one that, “I am a little pink pig who is on journey to discover the world.” But I think that answer is not enough to quell the curiosity of many humans.

“Aren’t you little and young to be traveling around the world?” Human would ask.

“YES, yes I am.” – is my quick reply. *oink* *oink*

“I write everything down on my website called The Adventures of Spider Pig.” *oink*

“Do you have card?”

And that made me think. It has been one year and I never thought bringing a little card withme to share to people about travels. Gino, my photographer, always reminded me of it.

In the end, here is what I made. I created a new traveling card. So, whenever I go out and people ask me who I am, I just simply hand them my card and tell them “I am a little pink pig who is on a journey to discover the world.” *oink* *oink*

Fiji Capital: Suva

Suva is the capital and largest city of Fiji. It is located on the southeast coast of the island of Viti Levu, in the Central Division, Rewa Province, of which it is the administrative centre. In 1877, it was decided to make Suva the capital of Fiji when the geography of former main European settlement at Levuka on the island of Ovalau proved too restrictive. The administration of the colony was moved from Levuka to Suva in 1882. At the 2007 census the city of Suva had a population of 85,691 [1]. Including independent suburbs, the population of the Greater Suva urban area was 172,399 at the 2007 census.

Suva is the commercial and political centre of Fiji, though not necessarily the cultural centre, and the largest urban area in the South Pacific outside of Australia and New Zealand. It is Fiji’s main port city.

Although Suva is on a peninsula, and almost surrounded by sea, the nearest beach is 40 kilometres (25 mi) away at Pacific Harbour, and the nearby coast is lined by mangroves. A significant part of the city centre, including the old Parliament Buildings, is built on reclaimed mangrove swamp.

Suva is noted for its considerable rainfall, it has a markedly higher rainfall than Nadi and the western side of Viti Levu, which is known to Suva citizens as “the burning west”. The First Governor of Fiji, Sir Aurthur Gordon, allegedly remarked that it rained in Suva like he had seen no where else before and that there was hardly a day without rain.

A well-known landmark is the Suva City Library or the Carnegie Library, built in 1909 as well as many other colonial buildings.

The Government buildings complex sits on what was once the flowing waters of a creek. This was drained in 1935 and over five kilometres of reinforced concrete pilings were driven into the creek bed to support the massive buildings to be erected. After the foundation stone was laid in 1937, the building was completed in 1939; a new wing was completed in 1967. Parliament, however, was moved to a new complex on Ratu Sukuna Road in 1992.

Government House was formerly the residence of Fiji’s colonial Governors and, following independence in 1970, Governors-General. It is now the official residence of Fiji’s President. Originally erected in 1882, it had to be rebuilt in 1928, following its destruction by lightning in 1921.

Suva also has many shopping and retail areas, notably Cumming street, which has since colonial times, been a vibrant and colourful shopping area. Features of these street include the original colonial buildings and narrow roads. More modern shopping malls, such as the Suva Central Shopping Mall, Mid-City Mall as well as the MHCC are all part of the developments to give the city a modern and sophisticated look. At the beginning of December 2009 the skyline of downtown Suva City has changed forever after the opening of TappooCity valued at $257,350.00 USD equality $50,000,000 FJD a joint venture 6 storey low rise building project by FNPF & Tappoo Group of Companies as Fiji’s n South Pacific’s largest department mall at present outside Australia & New Zealand.

Places To Eat

The Indian influence from the significant population in Suva is evident in the food. The Indian food is town is authentic, tasty, and good value.

For something upscale, try a restaurant inside one of the fancier Suva hotels, such as the Tanoa Plaza, the Southern Cross, or the Holiday Inn. For a quick economical meal in pleasant surroundings, go to the food court upstairs at the Harbour Centre and choose from a great variety of local and Chinese dishes (and you get to look before you buy) and sit and enjoy the view, or get a sack of fish and chips and sit by the waterfront or at the botanical garden.

Suva does have several western fast-food outlets available including McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken.

May the wind be always at your back…

Today, I contemplate on the meaning of friendship. *oink* I just witnessed a heartwarming event in my short pig life…of good friends giving each other warm hugs and saying goodbyes with teary eyes as they leave for the airport. Although, these people are not born of the same parent. Yet, they treat each other as brothers and sisters. *oink* *oink* I think crying is a manifestation of anxiety they feel of being separated by physical distance. They know that they will not have the comfort of seeing the smile, hearing the laugher, the feeling of being touched because there is now a physical limitation to their friendship. *oink* *oink*

Witnessing these events makes me wonder, how deep can human emotions go? After seeing the deep friendships that my friends have fostered over the span of few months, makes me wish to feel that same emotion. I guess it is just too bad that I am of a different specie and emotions are not similar to humans. What we physically feel, we just act on it. When we are hungry, we simply follow the instinct of eating. So, us, animals lack in that aspect.

Friendships, indeed, distinguishes humans from us animals. *oink* It is their capacity to love and show rich emotions that make them special.

To those friends who are separated by geographical location or circumstance, I can only wish you this… *oink* –

“May the wind be always at your back, the sun upon your face and the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars!”

After seeing the affairs of human relationships, humans are indeed worthy of flying high above the stars because their hearts are capable of loving and giving infinitely. *oink* *oink*

Hello again! *oink* I just created a teaser trailer of my adventures. Some places I have been and some places I plan to go. *oink*I think of it as a visual board where you tag all the places that wish to go or things to do. *oink* Have you ever heard of a “Bucket List”? *oink* I think it is the list of things you want to do before you pass away. *oink* Well, pigs don’t have the same lifespan as humans do but it would still be great to experience LIFE in whatever way. *oink*

Well, I hope to make it into a series for you to watch. *oink* If I have time, I will make more . That would depend if you will like it. *oink* Tell me what you think… *oink* *oink*

As I sit here typing away somethings for this travel journal blog, I have been thinking, “Do humans mean what they say?” *oink*I was just listening to this song of “Say What You Need To Say.” *oink* And I wondered whether humans have a hard time expressing themselves. I guess it is different for us animals since we act as we see fit. *oink* I guess we all have to say what we need to say. It is better to say too much than never say anything. Again, this is just my opinion. *oink*

Interesting Encounters

As I write this, a famous Russian novelist, Fydor Dostoyevsky once said, “We sometimes encounter people, even perfect strangers, who begin to interest us at first sight, somehow suddenly, all at once, before a word has been spoken.” That was very true today.

Going out for a walk seemed to be a very good idea especially on a nice weather like today.*oink* As I walked down Queen Street in Auckland City. I always had this problem of pressing the walk sign for obvious reasons (hmmm.. maybe oneday they can will add a walk button for pig heights). *oink* Well, I was very fortunate to have met a very pretty Spanish lady, Charo, who kindly carried me to cross the street. *oink**oink*I liked being carried but I was really embarrassed. Not only because a pretty lady is carrying me but my stomach started grumbling. I realized I had not eaten yet. *oink* She heard my pink tummy grumble for food. My pink cheeks turned red out of embarrassment. *oink* Well, she was so kind and treated me for a nice meal at Burger King. Unfortunately, I have certain diet restrictions and could only eat vegetables. I will tell you that in another story. *oink* However, I had my first taste of soft drink called Coke. It was *oinkalicious*! I like it. Charo is from on of the Spanish cities called Gijon. It is a coastal industrial city and a municipality in the autonomous community of Asturias in Spain. I learned that is was an important regional Roman City. I would visit it oneday. Charo is studying languages in the Auckland University which ranks top 45 in the Universities around the world. Cool, huh? Well, I had a good lunch with and she helped visit one of the popular spots in Auckland called the Viaduct. I love the smell of the sea! I posted some pictures of me and Charo. I hope I see her again. *oink*

A Visit to the GRA…oink.oink..

I remembered a very interesting saying from a friend that I met traveling here to New Zealand. He said that “we all take different paths in life, but no matter where we go, we take a little of each other everywhere”. *oink* I guess I can say that for the friends I made in the GRA. Do you remember Ryan, the gentleman who helped me in the airport? He invited me to go his place and meet some very nice people. *oink* I took the invitation and went to this GRA place. All I can say is WOW! ..*oink*

As I walked into their living room, there was so much happening. *oink* People were cooking, some were drinking, there were people having a laugh. Apparently, there was leaving away party going on. “Why do they celebrate when people leave?”, I oinked to myself. Then I realized it was not because people are leaving that they are celebrating. I guess it was the celebration of their friendship.*oink* It was not very difficult to see how close these people are. All of them just seemed to be very happy…*oink*.

It did not take long for the people to notice me (I am a walking and talking little pink pig after all). *oink* I was expecting to see shocked looks but on the contrary, I was greeted with enthusiasm (as if I was being expected). *oink* And the next thing I knew, I was being carried, moved, squeezed around! I guess posting these photos would give a better view of what happened. *oink*

At the end of it all though, I made good friends. *oink* What did I take from that night? I took with me an understanding of friendship. But is made me think…”How important is friendship as I walk through life”? .*oink*

*oink note — GRA is what they call the place they live in. It means Glenside Revolutionary Army. I guess it a joke amongst themselves. *oink* *oink*

Finding the Way

Here are some photos of me..*oink* finding my way out. One is the barn field where I stayed and the other is road which I took. It was very pleasant travel coz I met this lovely lady who is traveling on the same road as I was. Her name was Lucy. She did not talk much. Maybe, she was bit shocked to see a pink pig talking with her. *oink* Nonetheless, it was a pleasant travel. *oink*

Spiderpig Adventures… the Beginning

Hello! I am Spiderpig. *oink* I have vague recollections of my past. I do not know who I am, where I come from, and why I am here on this planet. *oink* I just found myself waking up in a barn full of cows (see picture of me with cows). It was quite interesting talking to the cows. They do have quite interesting stories to tell. Frankly speaking, I think cows are one of the most intelligent creatures in the planet. They often philosophize about this thing called ‘purpose’ and ‘destiny’. Billy (cow in the middle) would often say “If a cow hasn’t discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live”. Those words puzzled me for a while. I meant to ask him what it meant. Sadly, I woke up one day and Billy was gone. Dolly (cow on the left) said with a matter of fact tone on her voice, “he has gone to the special place to fulfill his purpose”. *oink* That puzzled me even more. *oink*That night, as I tried to sleep, I kept wondering what is this purpose.

So today, I decided to explore the world and find what purpose and destiny mean. And if I play a part of it as well. If so, what then is my purpose or destiny? So join me as I discover the different parts of this world and, perhaps, along the way, discover what purpose and destiny mean for me. So keep posted. *oink*
